A Numerical Investigation of Partially Lateral Restrained Two-way Slab Performance
Authors
Abstract
A numerical study was carried out to determine the structural performance of slab under effect of beam width and reinforcement details. In this study, models were created using ABAQUS software and validated against previous published experimental study. The results indicated that the numerical model had a good agreement with experimental results according to the mode of failure and load deflection curve. A parametric study was conducted using five two-way solid slabs divided into three groups. The parameters were the beam width and reinforcement details. From the results of the parametric, increasing beam width gave an improvement by about 20% in the ultimate load. It was found that the energy absorption depressed by about 14.7% to 23.59 %.and delayed appearance of crack, so the first crack of a slab with beam width 80 mm occurred at load 15 kN while it occurred at 24 kN of a slab with beam width 120 mm with enhancement by about (33.33-60) %. Using steel bars with diameter in the middle height of beams improved crack pattern obviously
